Ivor Turner – Hotel General Manager at The Lensbury

I have been involved in the Hospitality Industry for over 40 years and in General Management for 35 years. I have worked for many corporate hotel companies throughout my career and have had the privilege to work with many respected managers and directors of the industry who have helped to develop me. At present I am a Senior Manager with the Lensbury where I have been for 10 years and have grown the commercial business over 50% in that period. Lensbury has moved from 3 star standards to upper four star and we have achieved a Silver Award for hospitality and services.
I have developed new brands for hotels, restaurants and businesses and possess considerable skills in sales & marketing business planning along with delivering end goals. Through sound planning and market segmentation I have developed many sales & marketing plans for teams to work with to grow the business.
My career has been about strategically growing business through passionate people, to deliver strong, long term revenues and profits. I have many years of corporate financial management, budgeting, feasibilities, 5 year planning and monthly profit & loss accounts. My process management skills allow me to look at a business and review the strength of its infrastructure to ascertain if it has full control and understanding of its financial management. If any weaknesses show up I can
implement control and procedures to ensure all is accounted for. I have delivered many £Ms of profit through calculated risk management and strong processes for the companies I have worked for.
My ethos is that I believe in teams having ownership and understanding of the plans and be allowed to deliver the services and products through good communications and mentoring. People are the best asset for any business. By developing them to have accountable ownership they grow with the success.
Over the years I have managed many projects from feasibility to completion. Upgrades, new builds, new catering concepts and many more. I am involved with planning applications of many types so have a reasonable knowledge of the planning applications process. I have managed project managers and specialist and represented boards at site meetings.
Whilst I have many years of corporate management I also have entrepreneurial skills. I like to look at challenging and changing to enable the business to move with the markets, or create markets. I look to the future and develop products and service that meet future expectations and develop teams to challenge the norm. Through research and analysis I have developed many concepts/brands that have delivered sound returns, some have failed but that happens in business.
I am always looking for new ways of doing things and have a thirst for knowledge and experiences. I like to share my skills and Knowledge with others so they can learn and I enjoy developing people to perform to their potential. From developing people and business I have grown in to a better manager who has strong influencing and listening skills, key attributes for mentoring.
